VIDEO: Heat snap three-game skid, burn Bulldogs in shootout
The Abbotsford Heat hit the Christmas break on a winning note, edging the Hamilton Bulldogs 3-2 in a shootout on the road on Sunday afternoon.
The Heat twice rallied from one-goal deficits during regulation time at Copps Coliseum, and snapped a three-game losing streak – their first such skid of the season.
Bulldogs forward Joonas Nattinen opened the scoring at 4:35 of the second period, and Heat captain Dean Arsene equalized with his first goal of the season at the 9:56 mark. But less than two minutes later, Joel Chouinard restored the Hamilton lead.
Abbotsford rookie winger Ben Hanowski tallied at 4:47 of the third to set the stage for overtime, where the Heat had a four-on-three power play and out-shot the Bulldogs 4-0 but were unable to beat goalie Dustin Tokarski.
In the shootout, Markus Granlund and Corban Knight scored for Abby, while Joni Ortio denied all four Bulldogs shooters.
After a four-day break, the Heat (21-9-2) return to action with a Friday-Saturday home set vs. the Oklahoma City Barons (7 p.m. both nights, Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre). The Barons are the Edmonton Oilers' affiliate, and Oilers Hall of Fame goalie Grant Fuhr will be in attendance on Friday to sign autographs as part of the Heat's Legends of Hockey series.
