The Glengarry Figure Skating Club's 60th birthday celebrations were a success.

President Michelle Tuckwood was happy with how Saturday went as it was highlighted by a free public skate, hot chocolate with cake and their annual skate-a-thon.

The birthday celebrations included former members Dale Wood, who was an instructor, and Cartmel. Tuckwood said they enjoyed talking with Wood and Cartmel, and hearing their stories when they skated in the 50s.

"The kids had a good time," said Tuckwood. "They get excited when they can skate with mom and dad."

During the party, people gathered to look at the history board put together by Lisa McEachern, with the help of the Historical Society.

"That's amazing," said Tuckwood of the club's history detailed on the board. "It took a lot of research. It was neat to see. People were finding themselves."

Wood said the boards were wonderful and they should be given a permanent space on display.

"I like the pictures and they did a great job collecting them," added Cartmel, who enjoyed reconnecting and making new connections.

While most who attended were from the club, Tuckwood said there were others who came to enjoy the cake and the free skate.

"It's exposure," she said.

Keara Anutooshkin, a member of the Glengarry Figure Skating Club, said the day was fun. She enjoyed being with people and having a good time. Anutooshkin was also impressed by the historical board.

"I can't believe Dale is in some of those pictures," said Anutooshkin.
