Nitehawks down Nelson Leafs 7-3
Beaver Valley kept throwing the puck at the net Friday night and capitalized on their power play chances to down the Leafs 7-3.
The Leafs were looking for redemption after losing 7-2 against Fernie Ghostriders last Friday but it wouldn’t come in Fruitvale.
Scoring three out of four power play chances, the Nitehawks dominated the game. The Leafs had their chances on the power play too but scored on only one of six with the man advantage.
Keanan Patershuk scored first for the Nitehawks just over 3 minutes into the game. Ryan Edwards and Dan Holland assisted on the power play goal.
The Leafs struck back fast. Just three minutes later, Troy Petrich scored from Carson Willans and Linden Horswill and it was 1-1.
With time winding down in the opener, Nitehawks Taylor Stafford scored unassisted making it 2-1 and with just under three minutes left, Russel Mortlock scored from Jacob Boyczuk and Sam Barker making it 3-1 at the break.
Beaver Valley’s Edwards had a hot night with three points and midway through the second increased his team’s lead to 4-1 with help from Holland and Dallas Calvin.
But the Leafs attempted a comeback.
With 7:30 left in the second, Alec Wilkinson scored from Travis Wellman and Darnel St. Pierre. And then Horswill took advantage of a Nitehawks penalty scoring from Cole Arcuri with under a minute left in the period. It was 4-3 after 40 minutes.
The third period was all Nitehawks. Sheldon Hubbard bulged the twine midway through with Braden Fuller and Andrew Clark assisting. And then two power play goals sealed the deal.
The Nitehawks Calvin scored from Edwards and Walker Sidoni with 4:40 left in the third and barely a minute later, Fuller scored from Mitch Foyle.
Tonight the Leafs play at home against the Golden Rockets who sit in second last place in the KIJHL. Puck drops at the NDCC at 7 p.m.
