The New Westminster Salmonbellies have traded a goalie who was with them for three Mann Cup finals to the Burnaby Lakers.

The ’Bellies have shipped Tyler Richards to the Lakers for first round picks in the 2014 and 2015 Western Lacrosse Association drafts.

The Coquitlam native frequently shared net duties with Ontario native Matt Roik for both the Salmonbellies and the Washington Stealth of the National Lacrosse League. However, he did not play in the 2013 WLA season.

He is back training with the Stealth, who now play out of Langley and are called the Vancouver Stealth.

Richards, 27, played 59 regular season games over five seasons (2008-2012) for the Salmonbellies, registering an .826 save percentage, and 32 playoff games with an .816 percentage.

He joins former Salmonbellies Ilija and Alex Gajic, who were traded to the Lakers earlier in the off-season for Colton Clark and the Lakers 2014 second round pick.

Richards will join former Coquitlam Adanacs netminder Dan Lewis in Burnaby's net while the trade leaves the Salmonbellies with former Jr. ’Bellies goalie Neil Tyacke.

New Westminster now owns the second and fifth overall picks in the WLA draft in February.
