Vernon Vipers’ captain Ryan Renz has committed to Lake Superior State University for next season.

The 20-year-old Castlegar product has played 173 BCHL games, racking up 10 goals, 68 points and 207 penalty minutes.

Last season, Renz recorded a career high in points with 26 in 55 games. He is the 11th Viper to earn an NCAA scholarship.

He has one goal and three assists in 13 games after badly spraining his ankle in an early-season fight with Salmon Arm SilverBacks’ captain Blake Box.

Lake Superior State University is a small university in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. It is Michigan’s smallest public university with an enrollment around 3,000 students.

The hockey Lakers are ranked 14th in the nation.
