Rockets edge Giants in overtime for 20th win
Defenceman Damon Severson scored at 2:36 of overtime to lead the Kelowna Rockets to a 4-3 victory over the Vancouver Giants Tuesday in WHL action at Prospera Place.
It was the Rockets' 20th victory of the season and 13th in the last 14 games.
Alec Baer gave the Giants a 3-2 lead with 37 seconds remaining in the third period but, with goaltender Jordon Cooke pulled for an extra attacker, the Rockets forced extra time on goal by Ryan Olsen with just 17 seconds left on the clock.
Cain Franson scored twice for the Giants, who enjoyed the edge in play over the first 40 minutes.
Tyson Baillie led the Rockets attack with a goal and two assists.
Cooke was solid in the Kelowna net, stopping 29 shots for his 15th win of the season.
"I thought Jordon made a lot of good saves for us in the first two periods when we were flat," said Rockets' head coach Ryan Huska.
The Rockets (20-3-0-2) are three points back of the Everett Silvertips for the Western Conference lead. Kelowna and Everett will meet head on Friday night at Prospera Place.
Kelowna will host Kootenay on Saturday.
