Pool players find home at Dirty Jersey
Cue-toting snipers are invited to the Pool Room at the Dirty Jersey where they can chalk up and polish their game before the city championships are held.
“We’re going to hold the city championships in a few months time, but we’re trying to draw interest to our weekly tournaments,” said Mike Friesen, who runs the pool room at the North Shore establishment (1200 Eighth St.).
“We have quite a venue. The pool room itself is excellent.”
Vegas-rule 8-ball tournaments are held on Thursday nights and Vegas-rule 9-ball tourneys are held on Friday nights.
Registration opens at 6 p.m. and the action gets underway at 7 p.m. It costs $10 to enter and players of all skill levels are welcome.
Friesen said there is no lack of high-end competition, pointing to Matt Bracewell as a prime example.
“He’s part of a team that’s won the BCA [Billiard Congress of America] like four out of six years,” Friesen said.
“He broke and ran I think eight out of 10 games last week.
“He’s exceptionally gifted and has quite a pedigree. We’re lucky to have him.”
The Dirty Jersey’s pool room is open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
