Pilots ground Kodiaks 4-3
The Aldergrove Kodiaks peppered the visiting Abbotsford Pilots goalie with shots on net in the final period but were unable to overcome the 4-3 deficit, Wednesday (Oct. 9) at Aldergrove Arena.
Pilots goalie Zachary Station earned the game's first star for turning away all but three of the Kodiaks' 50 shots on net that night. The Pilots were able to net four of their 33 shots on the Kodiaks goal.
The Kodiaks opened the scoring of the game in the second period at 7:43 on a power play by Adam Callegari, assisted by Kenny Prato and Stephen Ryan. Ryan also held onto his first place in the league's scoring leaders with 15 points in nine games (nine goals and six assists).
However, the Pilots closed the second period with two of their own at 16:02 by Kolten Grieve and at 19:46 on a breakaway by Jarrett Martin.
The Pilots were up 3-1 at 7:19 of the third, by Joel Atkinson, before the Kodiaks scored their second at 10:42 by Quinny Leroux. The Pilots scored their fourth and final goal at 14:00 on a power play by Bradley Parker.
Scott McHaffie, assisted by Kodi Schwarz, scored the Kodiaks' third and final goal at 16:54. Kodiaks goalie Cole McInnes was pulled for the final 1:20 of the game and the Kodiaks threw a barrage of shots on the Pilots net, but to no avail.
The result leaves the Kodiaks at 12 points after nine games (6-3-0-0) and the Pilots at 13 points after 10 games (6-3-0-1). Ridge Meadows Flames, Mission City Outlaws and Port Moody Panthers trail at seven, six and four points, respectively, in the Harold Brittain conference.
Next up for the Kodiaks is the North Vancouver Wolf Pack at Harry Jerome Rec Centre on Saturday, Oct. 12, 7 p.m.
The Kodiaks host the North Delta Devils at Aldergrove Arena on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 7:15 p.m. and then travel to Richmond to play the Sockeyes the next night.
