Birchbank ladies tee it up
The Birchbank Ladies Club Championship teed off this weekend in a two-day tournament that saw close to 30 golfers compete for the top prize.
The ladies drove from the red tees on Saturday and the more challenging white tees on Sunday, and in the end it was 2012 runner-up Terry Van Horn that raised the championship trophy with a two-day score of 164.
Van Horn rarely missed on Saturday building a six-stroke lead over defending champion Sophia Park on her way to an impressive 6-over-par 78 on the 5,345 yard, par-72 course.
Van Horn wouldn’t let up on Sunday, increasing her lead to 12 strokes over Park and winning the 2013 Club Championship with a two-day total of 164.
Park took home runner-up low gross with a 176, and her 56 putts over two days, earned her the Francis Lauriente Rose Bowl for least putts.
Barb Secco, with an overall low net of 137, was the winner of the Elsie Buchanan plaque.
In flight #1 the low gross winner went to Maureen Elliott with a 179, and the runner-up was Sheila Johnson who carded a 183. The low net went to Michelle Hansen with a 145, with second place going to Susan Kim, 148.
In the second flight, Doreen Campbell earned low-gross honours with a 198, narrowly edging runner up Jami Fowlie at 199.
Eileen Holm captured low net with a 138, while Fran Gelinas’ 140 was good enough for second spot.
