Salmonbellies-A's in Minto semifinal, Whitby on to final
The New Westminster Jr. Salmonbellies and the Coquitlam Jr. Adanacs will faceoff Tuesday night in a big game. Again.
The two B.C. Junior A Lacrosse League teams will meet in the semifinal of the 2013 Minto Cup national championship at Queen's Park Arena starting at 8 p.m. It will be the 10th time, and seventh in less than three weeks, they will meet each other this season. The best-of-five BCJALL final needed all five games to determine a winner with the A's taking the deciding game.
The Salmonbellies downed the Alberta champion Okotoks Raiders 16-9 Monday while the Adanacs fell 12-7 to the Whitby Warriors. That left the Ontario champions with a 3-0 round-robin record and a direct route to the best-of-five final that begins Thursday. New West (2-1) gets second thanks to a 9-7 win over Coquitlam (1-2) Sunday while Okotoks goes home without a win.
On Monday, the Salmonbellies scored the game's first four goals and held period leads of 6-4 and 9-7 before rattling off five consecutive goals to begin the third period and run away with the victory over the Raiders.
Nathan Stewart sniped five goals and added two assists for New West with Anthony Malcom collecting seven assists. Connor Robinson and Jeremy Bosher both notched two goals and three assists while Eli McLaughlin had two of each. Alex Bohl also scored twice with singles going to Cody Nass, Luke Gillespie and Josh Byrne, who also picked up three assists.
