Olynyk will enter NBA draft
Kelly Olynyk announced on Friday, April 19 — his 22nd birthday — that he will forgo his senior college year and enter the 2013 NBA Draft.
Olynyk, who led Gonzaga University to a No. 1 ranking entering this season's NCAA men's basketball tournament, is a Kamloops native and graduate of South Kamloops secondary.
Olynyk is a seven-foot centre who averaged 17.8 points and 7.3 rebound per game for the Washington state team, which was upset by Wichita State in this year's March Madness tourney.
Olynyk, an All-American who has already secured his accounting degree, is projected to go as high as the middle of the first round in the draft, which will take place on June 27 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
The website nbadraft.net has a mock draft that has Olynyk being chosen 10th overall by the powerhouse Oklahoma City Thunder, right after ninth pick Shabazz Muhammad of UCLA and right before Glenn Robinson III of Michigan.
The website is pegging Kansas' Ben McLemore as the No. 1 pick in the draft.
