Four Rockets finalists for WHL awards
A record-setting regular season has led to a four nominations for members of the Kelowna Rockets for the Western Hockey League's 2012-13 individual awards.
Ryan Huska is the Western Conference nominee for the coach of the year, while Rockets president and GM Bruce Hamilton is a finalist for executive of the year.
In addition, Zach Franko is the Western Conference's most sportsmanlike player, while rookie Rourke Chartier is a finalist in the scholastic player of the year category.
Huska is an award finalist along with Eastern Conference nominee Ryan McGill of the Kootenay Ice.
Hamilton is up against Eastern Conference executive nominee Bob Green of the Edmonton Oil Kings.
Under Hamilton and Huska's guidance, Kelowna established a new franchise record with 52 regular season victories and finished with its second highest point total (108) ever.
The Rockets also set a Kelowna club record for consecutive home-ice victories with 23.
In addition, two members of the Rockets made the Western Conference all-star team, with Jordon Cooke in goal and Myles Bell at forward.
Cooke posted a 37-14-2-1 record, a 2.53 goals against average, a .908 save percentage and five shutouts.
Bell led the Rockets in scoring this season with 38 goals and 93 points.
Meanwhile, Kelowna Minor Hockey product Cody Sylvester of the Calgary Hitmen was named to the Eastern Conference second all-star team.
