Female reps hope to become provincial champs tonight
The Terrace Female Kermode Reps met the Tri-Cities Predators in the second semi-final of provincials in Vernon earlier today, winning 4-0 and advancing to the championship game tonight against the North Shore Winter Club.
Tri Cities was tied for first place in Pool B with South Island but were declared first on the basis of their the goals for and against average.
The game was a hard fought battle between these two teams. Terrace goalie Kelsey Roberts denied the Predators on 25 shots. Kermodes saw their first goal at 10:18 in the first from Marissa Nichol/Casey Norris and never looked back.
In the second Deborah Wraight scored at 12:26 from Nichol/Cassidy Broughton and Myah Bowel at 4:32 from Nichol. The last goal was at 18:34 of the third from Bailey Kasum assisted by Taylor Beck and Caitlyn Ray.
The Predators goalie stood tall facing 35 shots from Terrace. Penalty minutes were eight for Tri-Cities and two for Terrace. Tri-Cities advances to the third place game versus the South Island Royals and Terrace goes to the Championship Final against the North Shore.
The North Shore versus Terrace game earlier in the tournament has been touted as the finest game of the tournament, setting up what should be an intense rematch between the two teams tonight.
"The girls were amazing against Tri-Cities this morning," said coach Mario Desjardins. "The girls gave their best effort of the year. Tonight is going to be exciting. I'm not sure who is more nervous the team or the parents."
The North Shore has been touted as the team to beat all season by Desjardins, although they've come up short so far. Terrace has had a banner year, and are looking to conclude it with gold. Puck drops at 8 p.m.
