Kitsilano slips past Cowichan
Lower Mainland schools didn’t have an easy time claiming either the senior or junior titles of the annual Ross Cup hockey tournament hosted by Brentwood College at Kerry Park Arena.
Kitsilano won the senior tournament with a hard-fought 4-3 win over Cowichan Secondary in the championship game.
Host Brentwood, Frances Kelsey and St. George’s were the other senior teams entered.
The junior side of the tournament featured five teams, with Prince of Wales School claiming top spot over St. George’s and local entries from Brentwood, Shawnigan Lake School and Dwight International School.
Brentwood players did well in the skills competitions. Nick Ridenour recorded the hardest shot of 80 miles per hour, Cristian Jegodtka was the fastest skater and Logan Beaudoin finished as runner-up in the best goalie competition.
During the tournament, Cowichan Secondary received the championship trophy for the Cowichan Valley league.
