Cowichan girls hold off Brentwood for rugby win
Cowichan Secondary School's girls' rugby team won a tight 10-7 decision at Brentwood College over its hosts March 8.
The game was very even, as the score indicates. Brentwood's defence was tremendous and both sides turned in a strong defensive effort.
Allie White and Leah Theobald scored tries for Cowichan.
"We were able to find a few holes in the Brentwood defence to capitalize for the first try and the second came from a deep kick with a very well-organized pursuit,'' noted Cowichan coach Brad Skene.
Brentwood scored late in the game, but Cowichan renewed its focus to maintain the lead.
Cowichan still needs to find structure on offense and defence, Skene added, but he felt the win was a positive step for the team considering it faced a great deal of pressure.
