Saints and SFU meet in Nelson for start of BCIHL championship
The Selkirk College Saints and Simon Fraser University meet at the Nelson and District Community Complex tonight at 7:30 p.m. for the start of a three-game series to decide the 2012/13 British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League champion.
Selkirk won all four regular-season games against SFU while setting regular season records of 21 wins and 42 points during a impressive run that included a 13-game winning streak.
The Saints will look to get even more from Jordan Wood and Logan Proulx, who combined to score 81 points and occupy the top-two spots (Proulx shared second with the University of Victoria's Shawn Mueller) in the league's scoring race.
The Saints regular season numbers, impressive as they are, should not be on the minds of either side heading into the final series. This is playoff hockey…a different animal altogether.
Simon Fraser knows all too well what can happen in the playoffs, as they went into last year's finals as favourites before being beaten by the University of Victoria.
The Saints advanced to the final after beating UVIC in back-to-back games Mar. 8 and 9 by a combined score of 7 - 1.
The SFU team was equally impressive against the Thompson Rivers University Wolfpack, taking that two game series with scores of 6 - 1 and 5 - 2.
Game 2 is scheduled for Saturday, Mar. 16 at 7:30 also in Nelson. Game 3, if necessary, would go Sunday at the Castlegar Community Complex at 6:00 p.m.
