Rebels end NiteHawks' season
A Diego Bartlett goal in the second overtime period propelled the Castlegar Rebels past the Beaver Valley Nitehawks in game seven of their second round playoff series Wednesday, March 13 in Castlegar.
A packed house including a very strong BV contingent was entertained by a game that the hosts never led until it was all over.
After a scoreless first period Beaver Valley twice took two-goal leads only to see the hosts bounce back on even terms.
Scoring early in the second period for BV were Keanan Patershuk (Danny Vlanich and Michael Bell), and Ryan Edwards (Patershuk and Bell)... for Castlegar – Stuart Walton from Travis Wellman and Jamie Vlanich, assisted by Diego Bartlett and Hunter Jenerou.
Third period scoring in the hard hitting, exciting game came from Dallas Calvin and Arie Postmus, both set up by Ryan Edwards to give the visitors their second lead, then Jenerou (Vlanich and Erik Alden) and Brenden Heinrich with help from Wellman and Vlanich tied it for the Rebels.
Each team had numerous chances in overtime before Diego Bartlett ended it with a shot initially stopped by Beaver Valley goalie Jarrod Schamerhorn before the puck would dribble across the goal line.
Castlegar goaltender Jordan Gluck was solid, though not as busy as Schamerhorn.
Total shots on goal were 54-29 in favour of Castlegar, who now gets ready to host Golden Friday night at the complex in game one of the third round.
