Alberni sheep shy in win column

The Port Alberni Black Sheep Div. 1 men’s rugby team were on the losing end of a 14-10 score to Castaway Wanderers on their home pitch, Saturday.

Todd Daradics scored a penalty goal and a conversion, while Jack Rokotuiwakaya had a try for the Black Sheep.

The game was halted at one point when a Castaway player was smacked in the forehead and experienced tingling in his fingers. An ambulance was called and he was transported to West Coast General Hospital as a precaution.

The Div. 1 Black Sheep men are on the road this weekend in Cowichan but return home Saturday, March 23 for a 1 p.m. tilt against the Velox Valhallians. Then at 2:30 p.m. the Comox Valley Kickers play the Velox Academy team, also here in Port Alberni.

Teams will take Easter Sunday off, and the Sheep have a bye on April 6. They will play in Nanaimo on April 13 for their final league game.

The semi-final game pitting the No. 2 and No. 3 teams takes place April 20 (location TBA).

The Black Sheep are tied for third with Cowichan in Cowichan Cup play.
