Elgin Park junior girls 13th at basketball provincials

The Elgin Park Orcas junior girls basketball team ended its season on a high note Saturday, defeating the Brookswood Bobcats 45-28 in their final game of B.C. Junior Girls Basketball Championships.

The Orcas won their consolation-round game Friday, too, defeating an overmatched Charles Hays Rainmakers team 62-9.

Elgin Park dropped its first two games of provincials, which were held last week at the Langley Events Centre, losing 47-41 to the Claremont Spartans in the opening game Wednesday, and 63-34 to the South Kamloops Titans Thursday afternoon.

After ending with two victories, the Orcas finished 13th overall.

The tournament was won by the W.J. Mouat Hawks, who defeated St. Thomas More 41-29 in the championship game.

Boys hit court

The White Rock Christian Academy Warriors began their quest for a AAA boys provincial basketball title last night at the Langley Events Centre,

WRCA – who were third in the province last season – opened this year’s tournament against the Enver Creek Cougars Wednesday night after press deadline.

As a top-eight seed, the Warriors earned a bye through Tuesday’s qualification-round; Enver Creek defeated Mount Baker (Cranbook) Tuesday morning to advance to Wednesday’s contest.

The winner of WRCA/Enver Creek will play today (Thursday), at 4:45 p.m. in Langley.

The 16-team tournament wraps up Saturday night. The championship game is scheduled for 8 p.m. at the Langley Events Centre.
