The Aldergrove Kodiaks redeemed themselves on home ice Wednesday, March 6 by defeating the Abbotsford Pilots 4-2.

The win followed an embarrassing 8-1 blowout the night before at the Pilots' home ice, and puts the two teams at one apiece in the Pacific Junior Hockey League semi-finals.

The Kodiaks opened the scoring in the first period at 16:05 when captain Daniel Higgs hit the back of the Pilots' net, assisted by MacLean Hewitt and Stephen Ryan.

Up 1-0 at the start of the second, the Kodiaks got another just 28 seconds in when Hewitt scored, assisted by Stephen Ryan and Cole Gastel. The Pilots got their first goal at 9:28, then Kodiak Adam Callegari got away to score short-handed and unassisted at 18:39. The Pilots closed the period with a power play goal 11 seconds later, but it was to be their last of the night.

In the dying minute of the third period Callegari scored yet another short-handed and unassisted goal on an empty net to end the game at 4-2.

The teams were even on power plays with six each that night, and the Kodiaks outshot the Pilots 37-31. Game stars were Callegari for first, Ryan for second and Higgs for third.

The opening game had started out fairly even with the Pilots up 2-1 at the start of the third. Then the Pilots exploded for six more goals. Ryan Veillet scored the Kodiaks' lone goal.

Game 3 is back at MSA Arena on Friday, March 8, 7:30 p.m. and then on neutral ground at Mission Leisure Centre on Sunday, March 10, 8:30 p.m. Game five is on Tuesday, March 12, 7 p.m. at MSA Arena.
