Gators golden at Fraser Valley championships
After a pair of runner-up finishes in 2012, the Walnut Grove Gators hope 2013 is their year.
Last year, the senior boys' basketball team fell in the Fraser Valley finals to Pitt Meadows and to Terry Fox in the championship final of the B.C. AAA provincial high school championships.
But on March 2, Walnut Grove won the school's first Fraser Valley title at the senior boys level, defeating the White Rock Christian Warriors 73-64 in the finals. And the Gators hope to capture another first, a provincial title, when the provincial championships kick off next week at the Langley Events Centre.
The Gators open the 20-team tournament against the winner of Pitt Meadows and Sir Winston Churchill. Those two teams play on March 12, with the victor drawing the Gators in the round of 16 on March 13 at 3 p.m.
