Rockets edge Royals in shootout
Rourke Chartier scored the lone goal in a shootout to lead the Kelowna Rockets to a 4-3 victory over the visiting Victoria Royals Wednesday in WHL action at Prospera Place.
Rockets netminder Jordon Cooke stopped all five attempts by the Royals in the shootout, setting the stage for Chartier's game winner against Royals' stopper Coleman Vollrath.
Defenceman Madison Bowey's second goal of the night and 12th of the season for the Rockets with just 48 seconds remaining in regulation play tied the game 3-3 to force overtime.
The Royals had taken the lead just 27 seconds eariler at 18:45 of the third on a goal by Austin Carroll.
Jesse Lees also scored for the Rockets who are 28-5 at home this season.
The Rockets (47-16-3-1) will meet the Kamloops Blazers (45-18-2-3) in a home-and-home set this weekend. The teams will meet Friday at Interior Savings Centre, then again Saturday night in Kelowna.
