Fourth for juvenile Hyacks
The New Westminster Hyacks came fourth at the B.C. juvenile girls (Grade 9) basketball championship at Vancouver's Britannia secondary last week.
The Riverside Rapids of Port Coquitlam downed the Hyacks 41-24 Saturday to take third place in the tournament. Katie Browning had eight points and Madisen Obrovac had six for New West, which went into the tournament as the fourth seed.
In the semifinals, the Immaculata Mustangs of Kelowna downed the Hyacks 49-30 on Friday with Obrovac scoring 10 points and Justice Steer and Zoe Roberts eight each.
Earlier that day, they defeated another Kelowna school, the Dr. Knox Falcons 50-26. Steer led the way for the Hyacks with 15 points, with Obrovac right behind her at 14.
In the opening round Thursday, New West downed North Vancouver's Sutherland Sabres 45-17. Emma Forgie scored 10 points for New West with Steer getting nine and Obrovac eight.
Obrovac was named as a tournament all-star while Steer was an honourable mention.
