Hyacks into semifinals
The New Westminster Hyacks are into the semifinals at the provincial juvenile girls (Grade 9) basketball championship at Britannia secondary in Vancouver.
The third-seeded squad got their by defeating No. 6 Dr. Knox Falcons from Kelowna 50-26 Friday morning. Justice Steer led the way for the Hyacks with 15 points, with Madisen Obrovac right behind her at 14.
In the opening round Thursday, New West downed North Vancouver's Sutherland Sabres 45-17.
Emma Forgie scored 10 points for New West with Steer getting nine and Obrovac eight.
Their semifinal opponent Friday afternoon will be another Kelowna team, the second-seeded Immaculata Mustangs.
The tournament wraps up Saturday.
