Trio of Eagles are PACWEST all-stars

Just days before they tip-off in the first game of the PACWEST playoff tournament, the Kwantlen Eagles women's basketball team learned they have a pair of all-stars in their lineup.

The Pacific Western Athletic Association (PACWEST) all-star teams were announced Tuesday, and second-year guard Jessica Villadiego and first-year forward Amber-Lee Kavanagh are on the list.

Villadiego, a graduate of Holy Cross high school, was named to the second all-star team after averaging 3.95 assists per game. Playing in all 21 Eagles games this season, her 83 assists ranked second in the league.

Kavanagh, a PACWEST Athlete of the Week earlier this month, was voted to the PACWEST All-Rookie team. The Langley resident finished ninth in rebounding with 136 boards, an average of 7.05 per game.

The Eagles placed fifth in the eight-team PACWEST league with a 10-11 (won-lost) record. They play the fourth-place Quest Kermodes (13-8) of Squamish tonight at the provincial tournament in Victoria. Despite finishing three games back of Quest, Kwantlen won two of three games in regular season play.

The Kwantlen Eagles men's team missed the PACWEST playoffs by one game, but did have an all-star. Princess Margaret Secondary graduate Ali Bosir was a second-team all-star after leading the league in both scoring and rebounding.

The six-foot-six fourth-year forward averaged 21.75 points and 15.3 rebounds per game. He totalled 306 rebounds in 20 games, and won three Player of the Week awards. No other player in the league reached 200 rebounds.
