Langley pair make first cut for Team Canada
A pair of Langley players have made the first cut in their quest to wear the Maple Leaf for Canada at the 2013 world ringette championships.
Kacy Hannesson and Jennifer Wakefield were in Ottawa over the weekend for Ringette Canada’s senior women’s national team selection camp.
And out of the 57 players invited, 27 were chosen.
Hannesson is a 20-year-old who plays defence for the B.C. Thunder in the National Ringette League. She has four goals and 13 assists in 17 games.
The 32-year-old Wakefield has 27 goals and 82 points in 19 games.
The players will spend the next 10 months training for the world championships, which will be held at the end of December in North Bay, Ont. Twenty-two players will make the final team.
Hannesson and Wakefield were also among the five Thunder players chosen for the NRL’s all-star game played on Saturday at the Brian Kilrea Arena in Ottawa. 
Also at the game were Melanie Thomas, Tiina Mononen and Salla Kyhala.
Kyhala (56 goals, 95 points) and Mononen (25 goals, 72 points) are from Finland while Thomas is a defender from West Vancouver. She has one goal and 19 points on the season.
