A promising junior team with one-half of its members from Cloverdale had a strong showing over the weekend at the B.C. Mixed Doubles Curling Championships.

Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary’s Tyler Tardi, 14, from the Langley Curling Club, along with his partner Dezaray Hawes, 16, of Royal City Curling Club, decided to take on 15 other teams at the North Shore Curling Club.

Tyler and Dezaray were the youngest team at this event, the only Juvenile Team (Under 16) and only one of two Junior teams to make the quarter-finals.

After beating Ernie Daniels and his daughter Sarah (who was the youngest curler at the event at 13) from the Delta Curling Club, they went on to successfully beat the Kerri Miller/Edward Blumke Team representing the Langley Curling Club.

The pair beat some notable opponents, including Neil Houston’s team (Houston is the 1986 World Curling Champion), and Team Smiley’s Kerri Miller, who’s won silver three times representing B.C. at the Canadian Senior Women’s Curling Championships.

The twosome will be heading to Leduc, Alberta from March 14-17 for the 2013 Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Championships.

The winner proceeds to the 2013 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championships in Fredericton, NB in mid-April.
