Brown books place in final at junior nationals
Skip Corryn Brown and Team B.C. will compete for gold the M&M Meat Shops Junior Canadian Curling Championships in Fort McMurray, Alta.
Brown finished Championship Pool play with a 4-0 record after scoring three in the 10th to earn an 11-10 victory over Ontario on Thursday (Feb. 7) evening.
Team Brown earned a 13-6 victory over Manitoba on Thursday afternoon.
In her second Championship Pool matchup, Brown cruised to an 8-2 win over Nova Scotia on Wednesday (Feb. 6) evening.
Earlier Wednesday, Brown scored four in the 10th end to earn a 10-8 comeback win over Quebec.
The Kamloops quartet finished round-robin play with a 5-1 record
Brown opened the tournament on Saturday, Feb. 2, with a split — beating Saskatchewan 7-5 in the afternoon before falling 7-6 to New Brunswick in the evening.
New Brunswick would end up being the only team to beat B.C. in pool play.
The Brown rink swept its matchups on Sunday, Feb. 3 — with 10-7 and 7-5 wins over Yukon and Newfoundland and Labrador, respectively.
On Monday, Feb. 4, Brown dumped Alberta 8-1.
The Kamloops rink closed its round-robin schedule on Tuesday, Feb. 5, with a 24-1 shellacking of Nunavut.
The top four rinks from Pool A and Pool B advanced to the Championship Pool.
Whichever team had the best record after Championship Pool play (pool-play and Championship-Pool play combined) advanced straight to the gold-medal game.
B.C. and Manitoba were tied atop the standings at 9-1, but the Brown rink held the tiebreaker with a victory in head-to-head play.
Manitoba and Ontario meet in a semifinal on Sunday, Feb. 10.
The final gets underway at 5 p.m. on Sunday.
