Mrazek, Griffins edge Heat 1-0
Playing their third game in three nights and facing an all-star goalie, the Abbotsford Heat weren't able to put any pucks in the net on Saturday evening.
Grand Rapids Griffins netminder Petr Mrazek – who participated in the AHL's all-star festivities last week as a member of the Western Conference squad – stopped all 32 shots on goal, and was fortunate to have three Heat shots hit the post behind him.
Abbotsford goalie Danny Taylor was terrific at the other end, stopping 22 shots, including a penalty shot by Chad Billins at 9:48 of the first.
But Griffins forward Adam Almquist would sneak a puck past him with 38 seconds left in the opening frame, and that goal would stand up as the game-winner.
Forward Roman Horak returned to the Heat lineup after missing the previous two games due to injury, and registered four shots on goal.
The Heat return home to play their second annual school day game on Tuesday – a 10:30 a.m. start vs. the Rochester Americans.
