Future rugby Olympians off to Vegas for International sevens
Three Victoria boys have been named to the B.C. sevens teams going to the 2013 Las Vegas Invitational Sevens in February.
Las Vegas is North America's largest invitational youth sevens tournament and B.C. is the defending champions in both the High School Elite and High School Boys divisions.
The B.C. sevens program, run by Victoria-based coach Shane Thompson, is a pathway designed to identify and develop young athletes for future Rugby World Cups and Olympic Games.
Evan Cambridge of Oak Bay’s Castaway Wanderers and Chris Miles of Saanich’s Velox will play for B.C. at the U18 level, with Jack Nyren (Castaway Wanderers) representing at the U17 level.
Among the coaching staff with Thompson is a pair of former pros and national sevens veterans now based here, the retired Nik Witkowski
and Tony LaCarte, who plays for the UVic Vikes.
