Stellar special-teams performance powers Pilots past Outlaws

A pair of power-play goals powered the Abbotsford Pilots past the Mission City Outlaws on Friday.

At MSA Arena, Adam Rossi and Dakota Schipper struck with the man advantage as the Pilots (24-8-2) strengthened their grip on first place in the Pacific Junior Hockey League's Harold Brittain Conference.

The fourth-place Outlaws (7-22-3) made them work for it, though. After Rossi and Luke Venema staked Abbotsford to a 2-0 advantage in the first period, Mission's Scott Mackey cut the lead in half, scoring with just 12 seconds left in the second.

But Schipper gave the Pilots some breathing room with his goal at the nine-minute mark of the third, and backup goalie Zachary Station turned aside 14 of 15 Outlaws shots. Abbotsford finished 2-for-6 on the power play while snuffing all three of Mission's man-advantage chances.

The Pilots are back in action on Friday, when they host the Ridge Meadows Flames at 7:30 p.m. at MSA Arena.
