Powell River Kings blank Vernon Vipers
The Vernon Vipers needed someone to fill the offensive void left by the departure of their three top scorers. It didn't happen Saturday night at the Wesbild Centre.
The Vipers fell 6-0 to the Powell River Kings in their first game since they traded away snipers Adam Tambellini, Aaron Hadley and Pearce Eviston at the B.C. Hockey League carding deadline.
J.P. Villeneuve collected a pair of goals for the Kings, who raced out to a 4-0 first-period lead. Chipping in with singles were Drew Dorantes, Noah Henry, Jordan Benton and James Neil.
Jonah Imoo recorded 25 saves for his fourth shutout of the season. Vernon keeper Austin Smith was pulled after allowing three goals on six shots. Danny Todosychuk recorded 15 saves in relief.
After getting outshot 20-11 over the first two periods, Vernon outshot Powell River 14-4 in the final 20 minutes.
The Vipers head to Vancouver Island for a three-game road trip, starting Friday in Nanaimo against Hadley and the Clippers.
