Kootenay ICE announce trades
Jeff Chynoweth, General Manager of the Kootenay ICE Hockey Club, today announced the Club has traded 19-year-old Forward Erik Benoit to the Saskatoon Blades in exchange for a fourth round draft pick in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft.
“Erik came to us a few months ago and requested a trade. This caught us off guard as we had no intention of trading him. Ideally we would have liked to acquire a player in return, but our options were very limited. We wish Erik all the best with the Blades.” added Chynoweth.
The previous day, the ICE had traded 18-year-old defenceman Mike Simpson to the Lethbridge Hurricanes in return for a fifth round draft pick.
“This trade will allow our younger defencemen to play more while giving Mike an opportunity to continue his WHL career in Lethbridge. We wish Mike all the best with the Hurricanes.” added Chynoweth.
As a result of the recent transactions, the ICE have 20 players on their roster and eight picks in the first five rounds of the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft including one in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rounds, and four in the 5th round.
The next home action for the ICE will be tonight as they host the Medicine Hat Tigers at 7:00 pm. Tickets are available at the Kootenay ICE Office or by calling 250-417-0322.
