Team Tardi sweeps up silver
It's been an exciting week for team Tardi, a promising curling team from Cloverdale and Langley that claimed silver Sunday in Coquitlam at the 2013 B.C. Junior Curling Championships.
The Langley Curling Club team – made up of skip Tyler Tardi, his older brother and third Jordan Tardi, both Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary students, plus second Nicholas Meister, lead Zachary Umbach, and coach Paul Tardi, faced idol and fellow Langley Curling Club veteran Tyler Klymchuck in the finals Jan. 6.
“They have looked up to him all these years and it was a real privilege for them to play their idol,” said Anita Tardi, mom to Jordan and Tyler, who added it was the Tardi team’s first time at the B.C. juniors, open to curlers aged 20 and under.
Team Tardi lost 4-9 to Klymchuck. The rivals scored four points in the second end, and held onto their lead, despite some good strategizing by team Tardi.
Jordan and Tyler Tardi join a third Cloverdale curler, Rhett Hildenbrandt this weekend at the Langley Curling Club where they’ll compete for a berth at the Juvenile Curling Provincials in Prince George in March. Next weekend, Jordan, Tyler, Rhett and his brother Brad represent Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary at the high school playdowns at the Tunnel Town Curling Club in hopes of qualifying for the high school curling provincials in Kamloops.
