Rockets ring up 15th straight win at home
They have been one of the Western Conference's best teams over the last month, but not even the Victoria Royals could stop the Kelowna Rockets from extending their prosperity on home ice.
The Rockets scored on their first three power play opportunities en route to a 4-2 win over the Royals on Wednesday night, as Kelowna recorded its 15th consecutive victory at Prospera Place.
The Rockets (27-10-1-1) last setback at home came nearly three months ago, on Oct. 10 against the Spokane Chiefs.
Zach Franko, Myles Bell—with his team-leading 24th goal of the season—and Tyson Baillie each scored on the power play for the Rockets, while captain Colton Sissons notched his second goal in as many games since returning lineup after missing 10 games due to an upper body injury.
Jamie Crooks and Ben Walker scored for the the Royals, who were without the services of their top two scorers, Alex Gogolev and Logan Nelson.
Shortly after scoring at 5:29 of the third period, Walker was taken from ice on a stretcher after a collision which also involved Victoria's Tyler Stahl and Kelowna's Tyrell Goulbourne.
While the Rockets had success on the power play, the Royals struggled with the man advantage going 0-for-9.
The Royals outshot the Rockets 32-25.
Emotions ran high between the B.C. Division rivals, who combined for 118 penalty minutes, including four fights.
The Rockets will travel to Prince George this weekend for games Friday and Saturday against the Cougars.
