Mission club hosts 16-fight event

Mission City Boxing club's Johnny Nervais won fight of the night honours at a show held here Dec. 1.

Nervais faced off against Victoria's Gianluc D'Antonio in the co-main event of the night, fighting in the Elite 165 lb. division.

This was a back and forth battle, according to coach Dale Gatin.

"Johnny narrowly won the first round, while Gianluc won the second round just as narrowly," he said.

It was Nervais' superior conditioning that enabled him to launch a flurry of blows late in the third that won him the fight, Gatin noted.

The 16-fight event drew about 250 boxing fans, and featured clubs from Revelstoke, Salmon Arm, Victoria, Nanaimo, New Westminster, Surrey, Richmond and Maple Ridge.
