Parksville curling bonspiel success

The Parksville Curling Club was rock’n over the weekend as 31 teams — the most ever — from all over the Island and Lower Mainland took to the ice last weekend for the 2012 Thrifty Foods Men’s Bonspiel.

According to bonspiel chair John Milroy, Sunday’s awards ceremony kicked off with Judy Hawkes presenting the Bob Hawkes Memorial Trophy for overall champion, won by the Schmidt rink from Comox over the Craig rink from Kerry Park.

B event winner was Parksville’s Kereluk rink after a local battle with Dixon.

C event had the Conlin rink from QB coming up short against the Pisto rink from Comox, and in the D final the Rampton rink from Vancouver edged out the Zinkiew rink from Comox.

Defending champions, the Harris rink from Comox, were knocked out in the quarter finals by the Armstrong rink from Parksville.

“Well I can’t walk, Bill can’t talk, Larry can’t hear and Greg throws with a stick, but somehow we get the job done,” Parksville skip Darwin Armstrong was heard commenting about his team after.

Ice technician Tim Kottsieper “received many complements for the superb ice conditions. Our volunteers rallied to ensure a good time was had by all. Special thanks go out to our title sponsor, Thrifty Foods Parksville, Mark Hoffman of M&F Masonry, Bekins Moving & Storage and Jim Hoffman of Coast Realty.”
