Del Grosso scores for midget Giants

New Westminster’s Brandon Del Grosso dented some twine as the Vancouver Northwest Giants, based at the Burnaby Winter Club, hit the halfway point in the B.C. Major Midget Hockey League season at the top of the standings.

The Giants head into this weekend’s home games against the South Island Royals with a 17-1-2 record and holding a four-point lead over the Okanagan Rockets with all teams having played 20 games. The Giants will play the Royals at 7:45 p.m. Saturday and 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

This past weekend they pulled off a pair of wins over the Thompson Blazers in Chase. On Saturday, the Giants edged the Blazers 2-1 with David Begert scoring an unassisted goal in the first period and Jansen Harkins getting the winner in the second. The next day, Anthony Conti scored twice in a 5-0 triumph with singles going to Del Grosso, Begert and Zach Landon.
