Souto the hero at ISC
Chase Souto won a fight and scored the game-winning goal for the Kamloops Blazers in a 3-2 win over the Tri-City Americans on Friday, Nov. 30, at Interior Savings Centre.
The Yorba Linda, Calif., product was named the game's first star.
Tri-City looked to be the better team in the first period and was rewarded when Beau McCue wired a shot past Blazer netminder Cole Cheveldave, giving the Americans a 1-0 lead.
JC Lipon and Colin Smith — playing on a line with Brendan Ranford — scored back-to-back goals for Kamloops in the second period.
Souto squared off with Jesse Mychan in the second frame in a tilt that featured a series of wild right hands.
Give the decision to Souto.
Park Bowles put a nifty move on Cheveldave to tie the game in the third period, but Souto's heroics sunk the Americans.
He cleared the Blazer zone and headed to the middle of the ice while teammate Matt Needham fetched the puck.
Needham made a slick pass to Souto, who did well to control the puck and beat Tri-City goalie Eric Comrie.
Next up for the Blazers are the Moose Jaw Warriors on Saturday, Dec. 1, at Interior Savings Centre.
Puck-drop is slated for 7 p.m.
