The Abbotsford Heat added to their roster on Saturday, as five players cleared waivers.

Forwards Krys Kolanos, Ben Walter, Paul Byron and Akim Aliu, and defenceman Joe Piskula were assigned to the Heat by the Calgary Flames. All five played key roles in Abbotsford last season.

Veterans Kolanos (61 points in 47 games) and Walter (59 points in 75 games) finished one-two in team scoring. Byron posted 21 points in 39 AHL games, while also suiting up for 22 NHL contests with the Flames. Aliu (14 points in 42 games) found a home on the Heat's third line after being obtained from the Winnipeg Jets in December.

Piskula, a stay-at-home blueliner, was an assistant captain and notched 18 points and a +10 rating in 59 games.

The quintet are the second group of reassignments by the Flames, following a group of 18 players on entry-level two-way NHL contracts who were sent to Abbotsford on Friday. They, along with players on AHL-only and amateur tryout contracts, will convene in Abbotsford for training camp beginning Sept. 28.
