Senior Jewels starting strong
The Senior Jewels Girls Basketball Team 2011 season is underway.
Coach Terry Michell has three returning players on his nine-girl roster. The team participated in an eight-team tournament at North Kamloops Secondary this past weekend, Dec. 2 and 3.
The first game Friday night was a tough loss to Okanagan Mission Secondary of Kelowna 58-45. OK Mission’s Amy Sloan was unstoppable with 32 points. The Jewels leader was Claire Beldi with 8. The Jewels then won both Saturday games to finish fifth in the tourney. They defeated Valley View Secondary of Kamloops 69-28, and the entire team got on the scoreboard. Ailsa McLellan had 17, Brooke Rempel 12 and Sam Bergman 10.
The last game was a 53-44 win over St. Ann’s Christian School of Kamloops. Stef Kelly with 13 points, Ailsa McLellan with 12 and Taylor Bahen with 10 led the way. The team is improving with each game. League play starts Tuesday, Dec. 6 with a home game against number-one ranked South Kamloops Titans. The next home action will be the annual homecoming games Dec. 22 and 23 for the Jewels and Golds against alumni. The Jewels start at 6 p.m. and the Golds at 7:30 p.m.
