This weekend, a trio of boxers from the 2 Rivers Boxing Club are headed to Mission, for the Emerald Gloves tournament.

Ray Beaulieu, fresh off a win at the recent Rumble 15, hosted by the 2 Rivers Boxing Club, is boxing in the senior 75-kg division.

Beaulieu has been up against boxers with twice as many bouts under their belts, but in Mission, Beaulieu faces a boxer with 12 bouts, four less than Beaulieu’s 16.

“He’s up against some fair opposition,” coach Wally Doern said.

Also lacing up the gloves for the 2 Rivers Boxing Club are brothers Dan and Thomas Mott.

At the Rumble 15, Dan scored a convincing win against Andrii Zhebrouski of the Queensborough Boxing Club in New Westminster, in a senior novice 75-kg bout.

For the Emerald Gloves, Mott hopes to box at the 68 kg division.

“He usually comes in light in the 75-kg division,” Doern explained.

Should he not make the 68-kg division, Mott will face Zhebrouski.

Either way, Doern is positive about Dan’s chances.

“We’re going into this with some confidence,” he said.

Thomas is making his first appearance in the ring.

“You have to start somewhere,” Doern said of his young boxer’s decision to step into the ring at the Emerald Gloves.
