LETTER—Hands off
I am writing to emphatically state that I oppose any effort to change the Tsawwassen Area Plan and remove the Southlands from the Agricultural Land Reserve. (Editor's note: the Southlands is zoned farmland municipally, not provincially.)
There is already far too much development occurring in South Delta as it is, such as the Tsawwassen Golf Course Development, Tsawwassen First Nation Development, and South Fraser Perimeter Road.
The ramifications of these projects, including increased overpopulation, traffic congestion, air pollution and environmental degradation, will be impossible to ignore.
To then want to add to this unfortunate situation by removing some of South Delta’s most viable suburban farmland, particularly as concerns about food sustainability are finally starting to gain momentum within the public consciousness, would be incredibly short-sighted.
