LETTER—Supporting change?
I support change.
I have changed. I moved from Kitsilano to Tsawwassen. I support change. I left my job in Dunbar and found a job close to home to avoid commuting, traffic and density.
I love my life in Tsawwassen. I bump into friends and neighbours on my frequent visits to the Tsawwassen Library and on my runs through Centennial Beach and Boundary Bay Regional Parks.
I have made new friends through the vibrant programmes offered at the South Delta Recreational Centre, Ladner Leisure Centre, Winskill Aquatic Centre and our local running shop, the Run Inn.
I support change. I support the Southlands property being taken into the trust of Delta corporation and returned to the people as public farmland and a public park, much like the Boundary Bay Regional Park, which is across the street from the Southlands.
Open green space is needed now more than ever considering the numerous development projects already underway. These projects include the South Fraser Perimeter Road, which is expropriating farmland, the Tsawwassen Golf Course development which removed land from the ALR, and the pending development plans from the Tsawwassen First Nations recent historic treaty.
I support paying higher taxes in order to preserve this land. I support the expansion our little town centre to implement eco-density, which accommodates such diverse housing as townhouses, condominiums, and apartments. Eco-density allows businesses and family living together to share resources and space, good for business and convenient for families.
I support change to enable Delta municipality to approve multi-family and secondary suite zoning in existing neighbourhoods.
I support a system re-design of our school system with municipal involvement and funding to help stave off the myth that more people means more students and therefore better schools.
I support change and I vote no to development on the Southlands.
Sharon Doyle,
Delta
