Southpointe secures church site

Southpointe Academy may have found a new home, and students won’t have to move far.
The private school has worked out a deal with South Delta Baptist Church to acquire about two acres of land across from its current site on 56 Street.
The $1.7 million agreement must first see the church go through municipal processes to subdivide its land.
Southpointe CEO and headmaster Graham Baldwin said while the property would be about the same size as their current site, the big difference would be having ownership of the land.
Currently Southpointe leases its facilities from Century Group. Baldwin hopes students and staff can be in their new school by September 2011.
“It’s a wonderfully interesting and exciting project and it would really secure the school’s long-term future in a way that leased premises never can,” he said.
