Remembering Alexa, raising awareness
Updated: July 08, 2009 11:47 AM
Next Thursday (July 16) the first annual memorial golf tournament will be held at Kings Links by the Sea Golf Course in honour of the Alexa Middelaer Memorial Fund.
All donations and money raised during the auction will benefit the BCAA Traffic Safety Foundation, an organization committed to programs that will reduce injuries and save lives on B.C. roads.
Alexa passed away May 17, 2008 after being struck by an alleged impaired driver in East Ladner. The four-year-old was feeding a favourite local horse at the time of the collision.
Her parents Laurel and Michael established the fund in her memory.
Among the fund's initiatives is to encourage responsible drinking practices including the provision of inexpensive transportation options.
Tournament organizers Davis Benefits & Pensions Ltd. are looking for items to be auctioned off, including event tickets and weekend getaways.
The event's live auction will be held following the tournament at approximately 6 p.m. with auctioneer Rob Kavanagh of Able Auctions.
