Local developer Ron Toigo officially announced the name of his retirement residence project at the Tsawwassen Golf and Country Club last week.

The 437-unit community is labeled Tsawwassen Springs Golf and Resort Community, but Toigo, president of Shato Holdings, is hoping buyers will soon call it home.

The name reveal came July 30 at a luncheon meeting of the Tsawwassen Business Association. The event set a record attendance for the TBA as an estimated 150 showed up to hear Toigo speak about the project which is currently under construction.

The new moniker for the set of town homes and condos comes from the numerous springs that run through the golf course.

“We are trying to create a Palm Springs-like environment, “Toigo told the audience, “where everyday is a holiday.”

To date, 20 units have been sold.

Toigo said once around 25 homes find buyers plans are to take the project off the market until construction of the first phase is completed. Occupancy is expected by December 2010.

“I’ve always preferred to wait until you’ve built something,” he said. “People want to walk in and see something and really know where they want to live. And you can really create that wow factor by decorating it and finishing it.”

A computer generated animation showed the completed residential development and new golf club house and small marketplace store.

The project was shadowed by controversy as an unused portion of the golf course property was traded from the Agricultural Land Reserve in return for farmland adjacent to the Town & Country Inn which is also owned by Shato Holdings.

The residential component will be set in amongst the current golf course holes while the new club house will be situated on a portion of the land that had not been developed.

The remainder of that area will be used for expansion of the golf course which will remain a public venue.
