The Richmond Lacrosse Association is hosting a field jamboree this weekend at Minoru Park.
Dan Mason, head referee and under-14 manager for the 2009-10 season, is organizing what he hopes will become an annual event.
“We’ve got eight teams which is equal to about 140 players,” said Mason.
Richmond is entering teams in both the under-14 and under-16 divisions. The under-14 age group also features teams from the mid-Island (Cowichan), Fraser Valley (Abbotsford) and Delta, while the under-16 group includes clubs representing Saanich, Seattle and Surrey.
Games begin Saturday and Sunday at 9 a.m., continuing until about 9 p.m. Saturday and 5 p.m. Sunday. Each team will play at least three games Saturday and up two more Sunday.
Richmond’s under-14s will also be in action at 8:30 p.m. Friday, hosting the Burnaby Devils in a league game.
Hot and cold beverages and a barbecue will be available as a fundraiser for Richmond’s under-14 team going to Seattle for a tournament in December.
