Angus Taylor saved one of his best performances of the season for when it mattered most.

The Richmond man won the hammer throw at last weekend’s Canadian Junior National Track and Field Championships in Charlottetown with a toss of 64.32 metres. His season best is 65.33 metres, close to the national record of 65.51.

Taylor, who was also third in the discus with a throw of 50.39 metres, leaves Monday for the Junior Pan-Am Games in Trinidad. He’ll compete in both events and hopes to set a new B.C. record in the hammer.

Several other Kajaks competed at the nationals. Christabel Nettey jumped 6.10 metres to win the long jump and Emmalynne MacCorquodale won the women’s hammer with a throw of 51.38 metres. Also medalling were: Joanna Franke-Kuhn (2nd hammer), Shai Davis (3rd 100m) and Emma Kimoto, who missed selection for the BC Team, (3rd in high jump at 1.70 metres).

Lauren Stuart just missed a medal with a fourth-place finish in discus and Gurinder Dosanjh was ninth in the discus at 44.86 metres.
