Seven locals competing at national karate champs

Seven members from Japan Karate Federation Goju-Kai Canada are participating in the 2009 Canadian National Karate Championships in Calgary through Friday.

Two members from Thompson Karate Club (Kelly Jackson in the 14-15 years girls kumite and Shaun Divecha in the 18-20 years kumite) and five from Steveston Karate Club (Katherine Lam 14-15 girls kata and kumite, Seiya Takeuchi 16-17 boys’ kata and kumite, Sumi and Hidemi Uchiage in the women’s kata and kumite, and Toshi Uchiage in the men’s kata).

Toshi Uchiage is seeking for his 13th Canadian title overall ,including the boys, junior and senior divisions.

The Canadian nationals is only for those 14 years and older which is the same as international competitions.
